Mint 22 new install - mysqld fails

Hi!
Did you check "save qsos to local machine" or not?
That affects to mysql.

In case of NOT checked you have to create user with password to mysql server to be able to use the server with Cqrlog.

In case of CHECKED it should not ask any password for mysql. Then most common error has been "can not connect to mysql server" because of Mysql installed instead of MariaDB that should be used as mysql server with Cqrlog when "save qsos to local machine" has been checked.

Mint 22 new install - mysqld fails

New computer, new OS, Mint 22,

After installation I tried to startup CQRLOG and get a errorlog message. ( See mysql.txt )
To me it seemed to be a problem with --character-set-server: 'utf8'
Since I can not get in to the database I am stuck
Can someone help me with this problem

Mint 22 new install - mysqld fails

Hi Lode.

This is cassic Ubuntu problem, said in first debug line:
"/usr/sbin/mysqld (mysqld 8.0.39-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) starting as process 6239"

If you look my message in same thread, just over your message , I have just told that that. Cqrlog needs MariaDB, not Mysql.
Your first debug line should say somethin like:
/usr/sbin/mysqld (MariaDB XX.Xx.xxxxxxx) starting as process 6239 to be ok.

This is Ubuntu fault. They have not fixed their Cqrlog install package.
Now you need to fix this by installing MariaDB. See this message:

This is my result in loading mariadb

The reference link didn't

The reference link didn't work...Mint apparently doesn't return a valid Ubuntu version that can be recognized.
Mint shows the following from uname -a

Linux bob-Latitude-5400 6.8.0-39-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Jul 5 21:49:14 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

That is certainly not a Ubuntu version I recognize.

So, I tried installing mariaDB from the Mint 22 Software Manager. MariaDB server was in listed in the Software Manager and it appears to have installed. However, I get the same error:

TMySQL57Connection : Server connect failed.

and the pop-up window for the connection information to mysql server.

OK, I see it now, I have checked the "save log data to local machine" and then it will connect to the database! So, with installing the maria from the Mint Software Manager and checking "save log to local machine" in the database window works!

Thanks for your help.

Ok Bob!
Fine that you cleared it out.
The message referred is quite old now and new versions of Mint have different names for packages. But as seen from you message the install suggests packages that replaces the old name packages.

Yes, if you want to save logs in user's folder (that means starting a new MariaDB server service there) you need to check "save log to local machine"

If you do not want that you have to give server address "localhost" port "3306" and make a mysql username with password and grant to full control to all cqr% databases at localhost server.
Also in this case your logs are saved to "local machine", but now the MariaDB server that already is running there at port 3306 after installing those packages.

Third option is to use mysql server somewhere in internet (cloud) and put that IP address instead of localhost. Also in that case you need username with password and rights to manipulate cqrlog logs on that server.
