CQRLOG QSL Accelerator

Hi all,

from time to time (especially after the big contests) I get large stacks of QSL cards, which I answer - of course - using CQRLOG. But I always found it a bit tedious to go through the QSO list using CTRL+F for the search, CTRL+R for changing the QSL received status, and CTRL+W for setting the SB (send buro) status. After 20 or 30 cards at the latest, I get a cramp in my left hand, hi. (Or maybe I just missed some easier keyboard shortcuts?)

So, I've developed a little terminal tool using Python to help efficiently process incoming paper QSL cards. You can find a description and the script here:
https://github.com/dk5tx/cqrlog-qsl-accelerator/

This tool does not do the sorting, add QSL Managers, or handle the export for label printing. It just quickly sets the flags directly in the database (Q for received QSL, SB for will send via buro). The rest of the QSL workflow is best done right inside CQRLOG.

Note that setting an 'SM' (Send Manager) status is intentionally left out. I run CQRLOG's 'Auto add QSL Managers' function later on and sort the queued cards for export then.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome! Let me know here or via email (see QRZ.com).

... "setting the SB (send buro) status"

I hope that you check that the station actually *uses* a QSL Buro before doing that. I know that German hams are taught to QSL 100%

BUT in most other countries Hams are encouraged to NOT send a paper QSL until they have checked that a paper card is actually wanted for environmental reasons. Also very few Hams these days use a Buro, it's too expensive and methods like LotW are becoming the De Facto standard for QSLs.

Dear G8TMV,

as for German hams being taught to QSL 100% — apparently, we’re also taught to read the original post ...

The purpose of this tool is to speed up the processing of INCOMING paper QSL cards, not to send cards indiscriminately to everyone in my log.

If I receive a paper QSL card via the bureau marked “PSE QSL”, my best guess is that the sender would like a QSL card in return via the bureau. Seems reasonable, doesn't it?
