Being as I am having a most difficult time in getting my Winkeyer USB to work with the program, perhaps it would help knowing what the "CW interface" even looks like?
Is it part of FLDIGI cw oprations or is it standalone from that program?.

CW Interface?/WinKeyer USB ops
The CW interface preferences is in Preferences - CW Interface. There you can choose which interface are you going to use.
Now in new QSO window you can use F1 to F12 to send messages, or open CW type window and type on keyboard what you want to send. CW messages settings is in File menu in New QSO window.

Thanks for your input thus far. I have selected the cw interface as you have indicated but still no go.
I have selected different usb ports,and yes I am a member of the dialout group. I am using Hamlib for cat controll and that seems to be working fine other than I am not able to tune using the menu. I am also not able to access the CW macro entry windows as indicated on the help screen.
What CW interface did you choose? Are you sure the port (e.g. /dev/ttyUSB1) is correct?
