Hello everybody,
how should I disinstall CQRLOG in a clean way since the first install did not succeed?
If I try with sudo apt-get --purge remove cqrlog I get an error.
Perhaps I should add that I tried to install under Ubuntu 18.10 and perhaps this was my 1st mistake
I am back to Linux after many years but I don't have any experience on Ham Radio stuff

Hi!
Clean remove depends the package manager and what it does install with cqrlog.
Cqrlog itself uses (if you have started it at least once)
Hidden folder in your user home:
~/.config/cqrlog
That normally holds your logs and all related settings. Copying this folder with all it's files and folders is a fast way to backup all personal cqrlog data.
Cqrlog as program uses following folders and files where the most important (to delete) are the executable cqrlog under /bin folder and folder /usr/share/cqrlog.
How ever manual removing of these files does not clean you package managers database. It still thinks you have installed cqrlog. Package manager cleaning depends on linux distribution. Usually Google is good tool for that kind of questions.

Ok, I succeeded disinstalling. Now my question is: since install failed under Ubuntu 18.10, how should I proceed?
Should I install the dependencies separately?

You can do it that way.
As the end of dowload section says:
install MySQL server, MySQL client, Hamlib libraries and if LoTW support is desired, trustedqsl package and libssl-devel must be installed.
Then select binary suitable to you system from end of download page:
Complete application directory for other distributions:
cqrlog_2.3.0_i386.tar.gz
cqrlog_2.3.0_amd64.tar.gz
Once downloaded open console, give (assume download to /tmp/, file:cqrlog_2.3.0_amd64.tar.gz ) :
cd /
sudo tar --strip-components=1 -vxf /tmp/cqrlog_2.3.0_amd64.tar.gz
cqrlog should start from console with:
cqrlog
To get it to start menu, or icon, you have to consult your linux distribution help
