LOTW download error

I was able to upload QSO's fine to LOTW from my QSO list last night but when I tried to download from LOTW I get this error:

Something is wrong because LoTW server returned invalid adif file header.
Your LoTW username/password could be wrong or LoTW server is down.

Do you want to show the file?

My username and password are correct and the LOTW site shows it is not down. I have tried several times today with the same result. Is anyone else having this issue?

LOTW download error

Hi!

Say yes "do you want to show file" and check what it looks like.
Then compare it to adif file you have exported from cqrlog.
Does the header part (beginning lines before qso records part) look similar?

You can also attach the content here so we can see it too.

In my case it was, something "server in maintenance or temporary
available" does not remember exact...

When I click yes it brings up

When I click yes it brings up ADIFMaster which I use for all ADIF files. That program then has an error that says "This file is not ADIF formatted. Please use Import menu to open it." Normally ADIFMaster would show the QSO records so I think maybe LOTW has a problem? I have not been able to get the download to work since Sunday. I have tried many times. I have emailed the LOTW help desk about it.

Problem with ADIF inporting

Then you have either record the file name adif master opened, or change your default file settings so that it asks what program you like to use for opening file.

If you recorded file name then use your favorite plain text editor to open that file. If you changed default file settings and it asks what program to use for opening say you want to use you favorite plain text editor.

Then you can see what the file contains and also use that same procedure to open file that has been exported from cqrlog.
Then you can compare differences between cqrlog exported and lotw file headers.

I think that is not needed as the lotw header may include the problem report in plain text . You just need to see it as simple text.

OK, I found the files in my home file. Uisng text editor to open them I get this:

Error 503

Please allow sufficient time for the previous page(s) to finish loading before submitting any further requests.

Ok.
It seems that other log programs suffer this same problem.(hrdlog reported here).
As you noticed also my last message got duplicated.

Might be that there are now so many network users (because of corona restrictons most of people use their time in internet either working or just having fun) that routing gets filled and response times grow so much that clients start repeats because no ack received within timeout.

(This is just a quess. I am not network specialist)

Update. I got an answer from

Update. I got an answer from the LOTW help desk which just told me they don't support CQRLOG which of course was no help at all. I ahve found that when I gry to download outside of CQRLOG I get the same error. When I go to my LOTW page and try the Your QSOs/Download Report I get the same 503 error as I do with CQRLOG. I also get this on Windows 10 and on a different computer too. I even tried restarting my router which didn't help.

I'm at a loss as what to try next!

Problem with ADIF inporting

Hi!
As you have noticed it is not cqrlog issue alone. And as I told also hrdlog is reported here to have same problem.

You just have to keep trying every now and then. The hrdlog here managed to download after about 2 weeks trying.
You can also try at unusual times, if the problem lays under lotw server overload.

There may be also half broken router somewhere near lotw server that creates duplicate request packets to server traffic. In that case it is hard to notice at server maintenance side as the server itself works ok.
Again I repeat that I am not a network specialist. This is only guessing.

Hi Saku,

Hi Saku,

I think you are on the right track about a server problem somewhere between me and LOTW. Other ham friends are having no trouble at all with their downloads and some of them use the same ISP I do so I don't think it's my ISP either. And I don't think it's an overload at the LOTW server. LOTW help desk is being more helpful now so hopefully this will get figured out soon.
I'll let everyone know when a solution occurs. Thanks so much for your help!

Well, after being able to download just fine since Wednesday, the same problem is happening again right now.

Well, after being able to

Hi!
Today (sunday 22th) it looked like LoTW had very big load during UTC afternoon.

First I tried to UPload qsos. After pressing upload nothing happened. It took so long that I started to think that mouse button did not work.

(maybe I need to fix the button so that it grays out (get disabled) after a press to avoid multiple pressing)

So I pressed again.. After long delay I got 2 answers. Same qsos were loaded twice. No good!

Then I tried downloading. After very long delay I got error 110 (if I remember number right) "open_ssl error" and "no connection".
Restarted cqrlog and tried again and then got error 503 "Page request limit".

So it seems that LoTW server can not handle all the traffic now.

I was able to upload OK today

I was able to upload OK today but it took a long time. Download gets stuck on "downloading" so yes there is a problem. Hopefully will get fixed, not sure how soon with the Covid-19 crisis.
