same error as on raspbian.
in rasbian deleting the file called lotw solves the problem ( until cqrlog creates that map again )....
sadly in debian 8 it looks that cqrlog on startup first recreates the map i delete and then servers me the same error again...
seems this software is all but happy to run on more than one linux distro.
if it stays as unstable i guess i will be better using a maybe not that complete software that is multiplatform ready or at least is willing to run decent on debian as i am no hero with linux and shure not a programmer.
solving one error just to get the next isn't the way i had in mind :(
debian 9 , not in repositories and after manual install more things missing than there are needed..
debian 8 install a bit easier but errors on the fly..
is there a way to permanently make cqrlog forget of making a lotw file or map??
as it is the problem of the error under raspbian it is 99% the same file that is creating the error in debian8.
would be great if that file just dissapeared out of the program.

tried to download the version on the site but xhen opening fo install it also gives an error.
mmm, seems after deleteing and starting again for 16 times he stops doing it.
but sadly same problem as in raspbian , no rigcontrol over the ic 7100
tried the cable (usb-cvi) on a windows in n1mm and instant rig control , so cable is ok.
added my account to group dialout, an se"t baudrate to 9600 in software and icom
seems under any form of debian the rigcontrol isn't working?
anybody with the same issue or at least anybody alive still on the forum?
There are lots of messages in forum telling how to test your rig connection to rigctld with console.
put google search words:
cqrlog.com rigctld
And go thorough results.
Quick test. Open console give:
rigctld --version
You should get at least version 3.x. If not load latest Hamlib from https://sourceforge.net/projects/hamlib/?source=directory
If got version > 3 give command:
rigctld -m370 -vvvvv -r /dev/HereThePortWhereYourRigConnectionIs
You should get long text ending something like:
Opened rig model 370, 'IC-7100'
rig_strstatus called
Backend version: 0.8, Status: Untested
But NO error lines! Otherwise there is something wrong with the port, rig(settings), or rig cable.
If no errors open another console and give:
telnet localhost 4532
You should get something like:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
Then type small "f" and return. You should get rig's frequency like:
f
14032540
On the other console window you see at same time what rigctld does when you enter "f" at the other console. There should not be any error texts.
During these tests keep cqrlog closed and rig powered with connection cable connected.
When this works cqrlog should work, too. Until then there is an error in rig settings, cable or port you are using for rigctld. The "-vvvvv" tells you things from rigctld's point of view.
Then it would be nice to see what kind of error lines these test produce to your display.

hi!
And when it is question of Icoms set TRN oFF (CI-V settings command tranceive off) from rig settings. This is ON as default and rigctld does not work properly if it is ON.

version is 1.x , downloaded that file but seems it isn't a common installer.
checked the debian repositories and 1.x is tagged as latest version of hamlib.
seems most if not all versions in the debian repositories are outdated versions?
last version of Linux i used was about v6 , seems it was a bit better in the software department back then.
maybe time to try another blend of Linux , these days i have so little time off that it would take months to get some of this things running.
No wonder. 1.x is very old version.
Maybe a Ubuntu or Fedora could be better. If you did get used to debian, Ubuntu is similar. Fedora has things set up bit differently.
Search also HAM related distros. There are some and they are usually "ready to go" for most needs.

probably :(
sad thing because i did like debian ( at least until vs 6) .
wasn't impressed of the looks and feel of 8 and 9.
main pc for the shack will be a pi 3, don't think there is anything other than raspbian for that.
going to see if there is any way to get debian to use newer files , but if it doesn't work it will be over to ubuntu than.
tnx for helping out
been looking at ubuntu, seems it has need for a lot of hard diks place ( 25gb).
windows 10 at it's worst did better.
altough not shure about the use of hd in debian at the moment
I have a few Ubuntu installations in VirtualBox with 8GB HDD and it works without any problem.

Hi!
You could try Lubuntu or Fedora spins with light desktops like Xfce or LXDE (that is the one I'm using)
https://spins.fedoraproject.org
https://lubuntu.net
There is no mind of loading massive gnome or kde desktops just to have a nice outlook.
Light ones look more like old XP doing just their job and nothing else.
