Freuency display/intermittent rig transmit

I need some help please. I have spent hours searching the forum to find an answer to correct this problem.
After new installation of CQRLog and Hamlib the radio frequency is not displayed correctly and radio goes in and out of transmit.
Details:
Operating system--PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION_ID="22.04"
VERSION="22.04.2 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)"
VERSION_CODENAME=jammy

CQRLog--2,6,0 installed initially the upgraded to 2.6.0(115) GK2 using OH1KH's newupdate script.

rigctl --version
rigctl Hamlib 4.6~git May 08 12:37:13Z 2023 SHA=dad55e 64-bit

peter@Beelink:~$ whereis -b rigctld
rigctld: /usr/local/bin/rigctld

Radio is an Icom 7610 -- .ini file:

Internal Hamlib error, huh!
Polling - allowcommand:1
As you can seee the frequecy indicated 100 is incorrect but the mode information is correct. Meanwhile the radio is going in and out of transmit.
"Internal Hamlib error, huh!" -- I don't understand!!
CAT cable is corrected to the correct port -- have tried other ports on the computer and the same problem persists. And yes if I disconnect the Cat cable the radio stops bouncing in and out of transmit........

What needed information did I forget to include to help solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Freuency display/intermittent rig transmit

HI!

That sounds like Hamlib library problem.
Did you have a package installed Hamlib?
I had similar problems when having several old libraries not removed by packet manager.

You seem to have only one rigctld at /usr/bin but have you checked the library path that there are not old libraries remaining?
[saku@hamtpad ~]$ ls -l /lib64/libham*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 23. 1. 02:11 /lib64/libhamlib.so.4 -> libhamlib.so.4.0.6
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 11201520 23. 1. 02:11 /lib64/libhamlib.so.4.0.6

There should be just one library and maybe symlink(s) to it.

Another reason for frequency errors and transmitter going on and off is RF in USB cable.
This is also a "mystery". I have not changed radio (IC7300) or antenna OCF dipole or cables but few years ago I had no problems on 80m. Now when Hamlib versions have changed many times I do have.

Of course it can also be a problem with coaxial cable having water inside, but why only on 80m?

How ever those kind of problems appear only when transmit, not while RX.

Freuency display/intermittent rig transmit

Saku--the intermittent transmit problem is not caused by RF but I have changed out the CAT cable. When CQRLog is started the radio will go into transmit for a few seconds then back to a receive state. It remains in receive for a few seconds and then back to transmit. This will continue until CQRLog is shut down or the CAT cable is removed.

Yesterday I reinstalled Xubuntu. Hamlib and CQRLog. No change in the problem.

peter@peter-Beelink:~$ ls -l /lib64/libham*
ls: cannot access '/lib64/libham*': No such file or directory
Hamlib was installed using the instructions found in https://www.cqrlog.com/node/3352 so I don't understand the "No such file or directory: above.
I'll just use CARLog without CAT control while I continue to search the forum for a solution.

Thanks.

Freuency display/intermittent rig transmit

Hi Peter!

The reason your "ls -l" will not work is that in your system (Xubuntu) the library files are not in same folder as in my Fedora.
Actually my "/lib64" is symlink that points to "/usr/lib64".
Maybe this way you can find libraries:

cd /usr
find -name libhamlib.so*

[saku@tpad ~]$ cd /usr
[saku@tpad usr]$ find -name libhamlib.so*
find: ‘./share/empty.sshd’: Lupa evätty
find: ‘./share/polkit-1/rules.d’: Lupa evätty
find: ‘./libexec/initscripts/legacy-actions/auditd’: Lupa evätty
./lib64/libhamlib.so.4.0.6
./lib64/libhamlib.so.4

Here you see that we found two library files. Then we check what they are with " ls -l /lib64/libhamlib.so*"

[saku@tpad usr]$ ls -l /lib64/libhamlib.so*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 18 23. 1. 02:10 /lib64/libhamlib.so.4 -> libhamlib.so.4.0.6
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 11201528 23. 1. 02:11 /lib64/libhamlib.so.4.0.6

And it shows the other ( /lib64/libhamlib.so.4) is just symbolic link that points to other that is the actual library file.
So we have just one library file. That is good.

If you find more, and whose numbers at the end of filename differs, that could be reason for error "-7" when polling frequency from rig. You should remove one(s) with smaller version number(s) and after that run "sudo ldconfig"

If you can not find any external libraries we have to look deeper to find the reason.

After reinstall did you install Cqrlog from package? Note that it will install Hamlib as dependency. It does know nothing about your compiled Hamlib if it was there before Cqrlog install.
So there will be two Hamlibs then.

I assume that installing Cqrlog from package will install hamlib as /usr/bin/rigctld and libraries to /usr/lib in case of Xubuntu.
In that case when you compile Hamlib from source you should change it's defaults as it defaults to /usr/local

Do like this:

git clone https://github.com/Hamlib/Hamlib.git
cd Hamlib
./bootstrap
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install

When configure has prefix "/usr" it will roll over the package installed Hamlib that comes with Cqrlog.

Saku -- both CQRLog and Hamlib were installed from Github not packages.

Checking for multiple libraries:
peter@peter-Beelink:/usr$ find -name libhamlib.so*
./local/lib/libhamlib.so.4
./local/lib/libhamlib.so
./local/lib/libhamlib.so.4.0.6
find: ‘./lib/mysql/plugin/auth_pam_tool_dir’: Permission denied

peter@peter-Beelink:/usr$ ls -l /lib64/libhamlib.so*
ls: cannot access '/lib64/libhamlib.so*': No such file or directory

I think I am getting out of my depth here.........SO where do we go from here?
