Linux newbie here. I had trouble installing MySQL on one new Linux Mint install so I just erased and re-installed. (Sorry - I don't recall issues). Should I install MySQL-Client *and* MySQL-Server or does one package install the other too? Does order of install make a difference? Thanks!

Install order does not matter. Packet manager will handle it.
I suggest you should install only MariaDb.
