Upload to clublog & HRDlog suddenly stopped working

Hello All,

After years of almost flawless function, the upload to online logs suddenly stopped working today.
Whenever I enter a new QSO or update (edit) an existing QSO the status window shows "All QSO already uploaded".

The result is of course negative, the QSO is not uploaded.
I started CQRlog in debug mode, but this doesn't give much information either:

I use a combination of versions.
There is a version 2.3.0 running as a server on a RPI (Raspian buster).
I mainly use two clients (I have two shacks), both running 2.5.1 (one RPI400 with Ubuntu 21.10, the other on a laptop with Ubuntu 22.04)

Maybe I should upgrade the server version, but it has been running without problems for months, so I don't think that is causing the problem.
The problem appears on all computers.

Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

Resolved

Update on the above:
Upgrade of the server to 2.5.1 did not help.
After the upgrade, I made an export of the database (ADI) and created a new db.
This solved the problem. Now everything seems to be in good working order again.

Looks like they have some Server or Routing Problems. Sometimes Log could be uploaded, sometimes not. Or only one or two in a row of Logs and the rest fails. Website is also hard to reach.

Today I noticed cqrlog is really fast with this message when uploading to clublog:

From DNS traffic I see it tries to resolve secure.clublog.org which doesn't exist anymore.

Clublog upload fails

HI!
I do not use clublog, so I can not test this.
If the address has changed the quiest fix is to compile Cqrlog from source and fix that address before doing that.

You can get examples how to do that from these message chains:

At the point where those examples have command
cd cqrlog
(before make command)
give command:
grep -ni "secure.cl" src/*.pas

That will show path and file name with line numbers where secure.clublog.org exists
Then just open file to text editor like:
nano src/dLogUpload.pas
And find the line number. Using "nano" it is Ctrl-/
Then fix the address and save. Using "nano" it is Ctrl-O
after that continue with command "make" and so on...

If someone does that, please inform here if it helps. I can then add it add a pull request to official source.

How ever I have several pull requests pending from Aug 2022 and it seems Petr has no time to handle them now.
So there will not be any quick fix to official version, I am afraid.
I will do it to my alpha version anyhow if it is needed (found from my GitHub)

Success.
Changing the Web Address in dLogUpload.pas and a new compile did work. I did not make a "sudo make install", I only copied the new cqrlog file from src to /usr/bin. Should be enough or is more needed?
The only difference I noticed is the connection time to my Rig. It takes more time now. Looks like some kind of Debugging or Readout is started at the Connection. Log attached.

Log File Upload did not work

So you recompiled and then dropped the new executable over the old one, and the file upload still failed? I haven't been able to find anything about it in your debug dump.

I'm going to try recompiling today. I'll let you know my results.

Clublog upload fails - success!

OK success on my side. I modified the URL in the source and recompiled. I did the same as you did and just replaced the executable in the /usr/src folder and everything ran properly and ClubLog uploads work again.

Only snag is, I managed to "downgrade" myself from 2.6.0 to the current official version 2.5.0 (001). I easily can live with that, though!

What comes to slower rig startup after compile, it is correct discovery.
Hamlib has changed and so Cqrlog connection needs to keep up in change. Few things are checked from rig at startup ( support for power switching, cw via cat).Those are found with \dump_caps hamlib command that causes lot of text if debug in active.
Also command sending protocol has fixed. It now expects and waits responses to them, not just throwing commands out and tries to pick up suitable answers from receved data.

Note that if you compile my current alpha version (loc_testing) you need to check preferences: trxcontrol, modes and cw keying.
That is because that version supports 1-6 radios (user defined) and that changes setup a bit.

Copying binary file (result from compile) to /usr/bin is enough, but I strongly recommend to update help pages too. There are so many changes at least in alpha version. This happens if you use make and sudo make install commnds.

I have added code to https://github.com/OH1KH/cqrlog/tree/loc_testing a code that allows user to define hard coded online logs Urls in prreferences/Online log upload.
As I do not use any of those logs I would be if grateful someone could compile the source and test that change of works and report here, or to my Email (OK in HamQTH or QRZ)

Default values are as they were in hard coded source.

OK, I compiled this and ran it. To the extent I am able to test, this looks like it works fine.

- compiled new update
- renamed old /usr/bin/cqrlog executable and copied new executable into /usr/bin
- started cqrlog; all started normally
- reviewed updated Preferences; made no changes
- attempted upload to ClubLog; upload failed (expected)
- updated Preferences for log uploads to remove "secure." from ClubLog upload URL and saved
- attempted upload to ClubLog; upload proceeded normally

I think this takes care of the issue, and if ClubLog or other online logs change endpoints again we can easily adjust to follow.

I do have another issue, though. When saving Preferences, it takes almost a whole minute to save. I timed it a couple of times when testing this and each time it took approximately 53 seconds to save preferences from the time I click "OK" until the dialog closes and I am returned to the main logging screen. This isn't a particularly new issue and it may only be my issue, but I so seldom have to change preferences I have been living with it. It was the same on my other logging machine, but that one was a much older, slower machine. I can still live with it, but thought I ought to report it while I was thinking about it.

Anyway, it appears the addition of the ability to edit the log upload URLs works, at least for Clublog.

Same here with preferences close.
There are quite amount of different settings and it looks they are just growing.
Then saving preferences restarts rigctld and rotctld. That should happen only if those Tabs are touched, but it might be that there is a bug and it happens always.
It must be checked. As well as what other things saving causes.

Talking about delays:
With QT5 version of Cqrlog the file dialog window takes also very long time to fill list of files in folder. For example with adif file import/export.
With GTK2 version of Cqrlog file dialogs open and are filled immediately.

Today I tested preferences save speed.
With my laptop a change to radio2 model and then preferences close took 8 secs.
I have SSD hard disk that speed up things nicely.

Then I added code that allows cache writing to ini file while preferences are closing.
That changed close time to 3secs!

Improvement is over %50
I will add the (small) code to my alpha test soon, and also make a PR to official.

Clublog upload fails

Hi dear Saku and happy, healthy and prosperous new year 2023 to you and yours!

I faced the same issue so I tried two times in a row to compile the source from your local repository but I never get the option to modify the URL from within the program preferences! I really don't know why! I used the git procedure.

So I slide back to this nice explanation and I modified the strings into the file src/dLogUpload.pas.

I think that having such kind of option into the program preferences being a very welcomed thing!

I would like to know why I haven't been able to compile the source to get the option included into my preferences settings, anyhow the most important thing is that for now the Clublog error has been resolved!

I certainly didn't mean to sound un-nice and I meant absolutely no disrespect or negativity toward anybody here! This is a fantastic bit of ham radio software and I have had nothing but solid support from Saku and Petr over the years. I sincerely apologize if my comment came off that way! Perhaps I should not have lead with "...that sucks," but I don't place any blame on the CQRLog team for any of this. I'm more of a tinkerer, and am willing to dig into code and try updating my build, but only if I have to.

I'll try to be less sharp with a quick comment like that. By the way, I have donated in the past when I began using CQRLog as my primary logging program, but that was probably close to ten years ago now. You're right, I should kick in another increment.

Just some thought

We have seen these problems before with eqsl.cc. They changed the log-in method, and suddenly the upload function didnĀ“t work anymore.
Instead of hard-coded addresses or protocols, it would probably be more 'future proof' to provide it as a sort of 'plug-in' or advanced setting.

Add secure.clublog.org to your hosts file

There is a workaround for recent change with secure.clublog.org. As the only problem is that computer cannot resolve secure.clublog.org, you can add the address of the host to local hosts file. On linux/unix it is in /etc/hosts
Adding a line:
5.153.81.176 secure.clublog.org
work for me. There is a hosts file on Windows systems, too.

Missing triggers

I also had the 'All QSO's already uploaded' message recently. This was caused by new qso's not being entered into the log_changes table. There are three database triggers required that seemed to have been deleted. I re-created the triggers via the SQL Console and all started working again. The triggers are:

What version of Cqrlog do you have?
Does your preferences/online log upload have "udp log messages" section?

I am asking this as I recently added it to my Alpha and it makes one change to log_changes table.

I can not test these as I do not have any online logs in use. Triggers disappearing without reason sounds weird.
