Hi-
I just upgraded my shack PC to Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04- after doing this, I cannot start CQRLog. I get an error message telling me-
"Error- Can't load library: /home/eric/cqrlog/lib/libfembed.so.2.1.1."
Choices are to select OK and 'risk data corruption" or Cancel to exit.
Does this library use something that is no longer supported in Ubuntu?
Thanks,
Eric KC9FQV
I built a new machine with a fresh Ubuntu 9.10. CQRlog installs and starts without issue.
Once I tried to configure the Rig control and K1EL keyer I ran into problems. The ttySx and ttyUSBx ports were unstable. I am not sure what the deal is but I experimented with PCI based Serial and USB connections and saw similar issues.
The 4 port serial card came from my other chack PC running XP and 9.04. The USB-->serial adapters are known working units, the K1EL keyer is a know working unit.
All of the hw shows up with dmesg | grep ttyS or ttyUSB.
I am installing 9.04 onto a another slice of HD to see if the problems are tied to new hardware or the 9.10 release. I have seen quite a few other posts indicating that there was a bug with serial support in the intial release. It is not clear if they were resolved in the beta or if it went out with the issue.
I should know more in a couple of hours. The 9.04 install just started.

After I sliced up the HD to add an Ubuntu 9.04 test partition the serial issues went away in 9.04. Then when I reboot into 9.10 with the same ports and the same software the serial ports are an issue. The problems effect /dev/ttyS0-3 and /dev/USBx. Ubuntu 9.10 has a bug. This is too bad.
WSJT works in 9.10 and not 9.04. (I am a huge WSJT fan)
My NVidia dual card works natively in 9.10... a bunch messing around in 9.04.
In general I really like 9.10 and based upon my intial time spent testing I would prefer to use 9.10.
Given that this computer is built with Ubuntu and dedicated solo to the shack having reliable serial and USB ports is a hard requirement. So I will be sticking with 9.04 for a while. I will continue to dual boot 9.04 and 9.10 and keep them patched. Hopefully at some point the serial issue will be resolved in the 9.10 release and then I can upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 or just migrate my logs from 9.04 to 9.10.
This is kind of a bummer because I spent about a day and half ripping the shack apart, rewiring, and testing only discover that it was an issue with a new OS.

I have been running Ubuntu 9.04 for the last week with great success. Last night I decided to boot the 9.10 partition, run the updates, and then retest CQRLOG, 2 radios, and my K1EL keyer.
It appears that there must have been some magic in one of the recent 9.10 patches. It appears that all of the serial ports (4) appear to be behaving properly now. I did notice that my /dev/ttyUSB0 interface is intialized for the K1EL keyer but it still does not appear to work properly under Ubuntu 9.10. (dmesg | grep ttyU)
Based upon the testing I did last week it seems like the USB/K1EL keyer does not want to play if it is there at boot time. But if it is added after the system is up that it will work until the next reboot. Clearly there are still some issues with Ubuntu 9.10. It is only a week old so that is not too surprising.
I am going to stick with Ubuntu 9.04 for running CQRLOG, FLDigi, gMFSK, and MMTTY for a while longer. I will continue to boot the 9.10 slice as time permits and run the updates and retest.

Hi Eric,
do you have recent version of CQRLOG? Version 0.8.5 includes libstdc++5 which is nedded to load libfembed.so.2.1.1library.
If not, please upgrade to recent version. Problem is with libstdc++5 package which is not in new Ubuntu repositories.

I installed latest CRLOG to my new Ubuntu 9.10 installation resulting CRLOG not starting.
Doubleclicking the program file have no action. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Hi,
I'm new with the Linux, how it can be checked?
Juha, OH4JK
Hi Juha,
go to System -> Administration -> Synaptics package manager. Enter password if you prompted. Click to search button. Small window appears. In search field enter hamlib and hit Enter. Package manager should find a few files. Please check libhamlib2, libhamlib-utils for installion. Click to Apply button. That's it!
Or you can open console and enter this command:
sudo apt-get install libhamlib2 libhamlib-utils
