QTH Locator Database

Hi all,

for VHF/UHF/SHF, 6m, EME etc operators it would be nice to have QTH locator database which shows known locators for a callsign. Perhaps in the "Details" window. I wouldn't recommend to put a locator automatically in the locator field because there are many stations who have more than one locator.

I'm currently managing the QTH locator database for Win-Test. It's a database containing mainly (but not only) stations and their locators in Europe and adjacent countries who are active in VHF/UHF/SHF contests. This could be a start for a CQRLOG locator database.

Hw?

Re: QTH Locator Database

Hi Ulf,

you can use Membership function for this. Just prepare right file. How to do that is described in help: http://www.cqrlog.com/help/h3.html#ah31

e.g.

LOCATOR
Locator database

OK2CQR;JO70GG
OK7WA;JN89RE

and save this as locator.txt and put it into membership directory.

Run CQRLOG, go to Preferences, choose Membership tab. Choose one of membership, from combobox select LOCATOR;Locator database.
Click to Load button. After that click to Settings button. Window appears. In right side in first combobox choose "clubcall", in the second choose "call".
Then set "Store this information into" to "grid". Click to OK and again OK.

Now if you enter callsign e.g. OK2CQR and leave call filed, my locator will appear in Grid field.

Re: QTH Locator Database

Petr,

excellent! I haven't thought about the membership lists for this function.

I see .. it was a good decision to change to CQRLOG!

PS:
QTH Locator Database available as text file at http://5tx.de/?page_id=14 .. Updates (for Europe) are welcome.

Re: QTH Locator Database

Nifty little feature, and it almost work out....
When I fetch the txt file from DK5TX after replacing spaces with ";" and the header, it contains a lot of calls with two or more locators attached, it starts loading, but the loading fails when encountering the first of these, as in:

Working ....
Wrong date to encode!
Call: DB6NI
Club nr: JO50TI
From date: JO50VI
128 records converted

Of cause the file can be edited to contain only one locator per call - but which one? and is there a smarter way to accomplish this?

Also: I cannot make the locator appear in the grid field, although the "Details" window shows:

"New LOCATORTEST member! (OK2CQR #JO70GG)"

(I have made a little test file called locatortest.txt, and performed the operations specified by Petr)
"field" is left blank - is this correct?

Running Ver. 0.9.2

Re: QTH Locator Database

Hi Peter,

you can use only one locator per call. There is no way how to show more locators for one call.

if you want to store locator to grid field, in right side of the window in first combobox choose "clubcall", in the second choose "call".
Then set "Store this information into" to "grid" and into "field:" put %n
Now, it should work. I'm sorry I forgot about it.

Into text information about New etc. put . (dot) or _. If you leave it blank, it won't work.

Re: QTH Locator Database

Hello Petr,

for some callsigns the grid field stays blank even though data is available in the according membership text file.
Can you please check? Take http://5tx.de/load/ham_radio/cqrlog/qthloc.txt and check for e.g. OK1AYA, OZ5W, SK3MF, ...
Any idea why?!

And it seems that membership lists can't handle /P, DL/ etc .. true? It's not a big problem, but if so I will remove all calls with "/" from the files.

Re: QTH Locator Database

Hello Peter,

I can provide you 2 files which I will upload to my website later on:

qthloc.txt

Only one locator per call. Which one? The first one in the row. Is it the most recent? I don't know :)
Please take this file lile Petr explained.

locator.txt

This file shows you more than one locator in the "Details" window. It looks like this:

Locator
QTH Locators
DK5TX;JO41JW JO41PU JO42DC
DK5WL/P;JN39PU
DK5WMA;JO50WV JO60KT

In the Membership preferences choose that file from the drop down menu, click on "Load", then on "Settings".
Change the entries for New/New band/New mode/QSL needed/Already confirmed to

Known locator(s): %n

This will show you all known locators for a callsign, e.g. DK5TX in the call field, press space. In the "Details" window you see

Known locator(s): JO41JW JO41PU JO42DC

Some stations change their locator from time to time because they're operating from different locations. So they have more than one locator. Like me:

JO41JW: Home QTH
JO41PU: Contest QTH #1
JO42DC: Contest QTH #2 (if #1 is occupied)

I take result files from famous VHF/UHF/SHF contests to compile the locator list. So if an operator was active with one callsign from different locations this callsign have several locators. And many stations have updated their entries with multiple locators on my Locator Database website.

QTH Locator Database discontinued

Hello all,

due to a lack of time and the fact that I've quit serious VHF DXing and Contesting quite some time ago I've discontinued the work on the QTH Locator Database in 2010. The files haven't been maintained for months, so I decided to take them off my website in order to prevent errors caused by an outdated database.

I'm sri for that.
